Savvy Arizona vacationers and locals know that Scottsdale shopping is as much a draw to this small city of 200,000 as are the city’s luxurious resorts, spas and golf courses.
Shopping in Scottsdale has just about everything a power shopper could wish for including designer fashions, fine art, Old West antiques, trendy shoes and Native American jewelry. From Arizona’s largest mall to a shopping center that resembles a Tuscan village, you’ll find a little bit everything in this shopping mecca. And even if shopping isn’t your thing, shopping centers in Scottsdale have great restaurants, day spas and entertainment. While some of Scottsdale’s most popular and well-known shopping districts are in downtown Scottsdale, which includes Old Town Scottsdale, just about every corner of the city has its own shopping area. Scottsdale Fashion Square
This Scottsdale mall is largest in the state.Scottsdale Fashion Square is a huge, three-story, enclosed mall of more than 18- million square feet, making it a great year-round shopping destination. The Borgata Scottsdale Shopping Center
You’ll feel like you’ve traveled to Europe after you’ve visited this central Scottsdale shopping center.  | | The Borgata resembles a Tuscan village | Built to resemble a medieval Tuscan village, the Borgata has an open air design with cobblestone walkways, stone fountains and tiled roofs that evoke a rustic Italian atmosphere. Refurbished in 2008, the center still has a few brand name stores here, however, most of the Borgata’s shops are one-of-a-kind boutiques, many of which specialize in haute couture for men and women. National chains include Chico’s and Optical Shops of Aspen. Arizona exclusive retailers include James Eliot fine jewelry. There are also several art galleries and home accessories stores. Borgata restaurants include J. Alexander's, a Tennessee-based chain that serves American food including various cuts of beef, buttermilk onion rings, ahi tuna and rotisserie chicken. There's also Blanco Tacos + Tequila, one of Sam Fox's restaurant creations, that's a take an inexpensive take on Mexican food. Dishes inlcude braised short rib enchilada, scallop ceviche, chicken mole and a variety of taco options. Plus, there's over 50 tequilas to try as well as margaritas, sangria and Mexican beers. Slo Foods Organic Cafe serves healthy and organic Persian food. If you're not familiar with the unique foods of ancient Iran, this is a great place to try them. Dishes such as sangak, a yummy flatbread cooked in a tandoor oven, shirazi salad of tomatoes, cucmbers, onion and parsley, and kookoo sabzi, similar to an herb fritatta with heady mix of dill, parsley and cilantro, are both healthy and delicious. If Scottsdale shopping leaves you feeling beat, you can stop in at Dolce Salon and Spa for reasonably priced spa treatments such as a desert rose facial ($95/1 hour) or a Swedish massage ($$75/1 hour). This 13,000-square foot day spa has 21 spa rooms, 28 styling stations, a Versaspa™ Sunless Tanning by Magic Tan® and a spa café.
The Shops at Gainey Village
The Shops at Gainey Village are set in the tony Gainey Ranch area and conveniently located near the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort.  | | The open air Shops at Gainey Village makes for pleasant Scottsdale shopping experience | This Scottsdale shopping area is a blend of upscale boutiques and popular restaurants in an open air, plaza-like setting. Thick stone columns and Mediterranean style plantings give it a rustic village feel. Stores range from apparel to art. has fine ladies clothing and accessories. Anastasia’s Bath, Body and Boudoir offers fine European lingerie, luxurious bath and body products and charming boudoir accessories in a chic Parisian atmosphere. Oak Creek offers a creative mix of Southwest gifts and arts created by artists living in the Southwest. Unique works include glass-fused copper art, sandstone tables, Consanti bronze windchimes and saguaro rib walking sticks by Greg Axe. Oliver Smith Jewelers specializes in custom wedding rings while Andreis Rug Gallery offers fine Persian rugs in hard-to-find sizes. The Shops at Gainey Village has eight restaurants including the popular Pei Wei Asian Diner and Paradise Bakery and Café.  | | Bloom restaurant at the Shops at Gainey Village | Bloom is part of the very successful Fox restaurants empire, started by Sam Fox, a Tucson chef turned restaurateur. Bloom has a trendy contemporary but casual atmosphere and is very popular with locals. The seasonally menu has a New American cuisine style, blending ingredients from around the world. We found our appetizer of melted brie with tomatoes and roasted garlic and the delicious and chocolatey "bars of sin" dessert to be better than our dinner entrees. Still, we would eat at Bloom again as it does have an interesting menu. McCormick & Schmick's serves seafood and features a "fresh list" of over 30 seafood species.
Kierland Commons Scottsdale Shopping Center
Set in Scottsdale’s newer and expanding upscale north end, the Kierland Scottsdale bills itself as a "lifestyle center."  | | The Kierland Commons in north Scottsdale is an upscale Scottsdale shopping center | This 38-acre Scottsdale shopping area combines stores, restaurants, offices and residential lofts in a breezy outdoor, urban neighborhood setting. With its palm-lined streets, misted sidewalks and valet parking, you’ll feel rich and famous while window shopping, no matter how much you have in your wallet. The upscale mix of over 70 shops includes Coach, French Connection, Anthropologie, Eileen Fisher and Gauthier L’atelier jewelers. Men aren’t left out of the Kierland Commons shopping scene either with stores like Hemingway’s Cigar Boutique and V’s Barbershop. Both men and women will enjoy the Tommy Bahama store with its island plantation style and a misted café and bar on the store’s front patio. For kids, there’s a large water splash pad in front of the Barnes and Noble bookstore and a Cold Stone Creamery. If you’re a home, garden or cooking enthusiast, stop in at Restoration Hardware, Sur La Table, or Baccus Wine Made Simple. Kierland Commons is also worth a visit to try some popular Scottsdale restaurants. Zinc Bistro is one of our favorites for its authentic Paris café atmosphere and bistro cuisine.  | | Zinc Bistro takes its inspiration from Parisian cafes | Some of their delicious French specialties include flatiron steak and pommes frites, Dungeness crab and truffle omelette and chocolate pot de crème infused with Earl Grey tea. Other Kierland Commons restaurants are: - North: takes a modern approach to Italian trattoria food and serves it in a sleek New York loft setting.
- The Greene House: inspired by California craftsman style, they serve farm-inspired California cuisine from a seasonal menu that changes monthly.
- Ra Sushi Bar and Restaurant: unique sushi and teriyaki in a hip and trendy atmosphere.
- Mastro’s Ocean Club Fish House: takes the steakhouse concept and turns it upscale for very fine seafood dining in a clubby, avant-garde atmosphere. Their "O" Bar has live entertainment nightly.
- The Cheesecake Factory: a national restaurant chain known for – you guessed it – cheesecake.
Kierland Commons is next door to the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa and the Kierland Golf Course and Club. It's worth the easy stroll across the street to stroll through the lovely flower-filled grounds or even have an agave-inspired spa treatment at the resort's Agave Spa.
el Pedregal Marketplace
El Pedregal has the most unique design of any Scottsdale shopping center.  | | El Pedregal's tent-like structure shades the outdoor amphitheater, host to variety of entertainment events through out the year at this Scottsdale shopping place | Located in far north Scottsdale next door to The Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa, el Pedregal is modeled after an old Moroccan marketplace. A Saharan tent structure, large watch tower and bright desert colors nestled against the area’s 12-million year old boulders create a distinctive atmosphere. This upscale Scottsdale shopping venue has over 30 boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Even if you don’t have a spa treatment at the famed Golden Door Spa, you can still take a little of that luxury home with you from the Golden Door Home Store. They offer linens, loungewear and bath and body care products from the famed spa. Many of the boutiques provide shoppers with a chance to take a bit of the Southwest home with them in the way of furnishings, art, gems, custom leather goods and clothing. The Mineral and Fossil Gallery has an amazing collection of gems, minerals, fossils and jewelry from the southwest and around the world. Adelante Gallery offers paintings and sculpture by local and international artists. Barbara's Boutique has fashionable clothing and jewelry from the U.S. and Canada. El Pedregal restaurants include: - The Bakery Café has good sandwiches, salads, bagels and pastries in a casual setting. We had a very nice, inexpensive lunch here of yummy fresh sandwiches.
- The Spotted Donkey Cantina with Southwestern and Mexican food in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
- Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop, serving their famous ice cream along with smoothies, yogurt and specialty coffee drinks.
 | | The Heard Museum North has a fine collection of Native American art | El Pedregal holds a variety of events and concerts throughout the year on the outdoor Courtyard Stage including concerts, art festivals and a monthly Courtyard Market. Nearby, is the The Heard Museum North at the Summit at Scottsdale, a branch location of the world famous Heard Museum in Phoenix. Heard Museum North has two exhibitions taken from its parent museum’s amazing collection of Native American art, crafts and culture. Take time to browse in their wonderful gift shop that offers American Indian art, jewelry, books, cards and more. There’s also a lovely garden café serving Southwestern and American specialties.
