Central Scottsdale Lodging

Find the Best Scottsdale AZ Hotels near Scottsdale Spring Training and Scottsdale Attractions.

Scottsdale lodging is famous for high-priced, big name resorts.

You can, however, find Scottsdale AZ hotels that offer less expensive rooms with nice amenities. Even some of the smaller resorts in Scottsdale offer good values.

Most of the central Scottsdale AZ hotels that we’ve listed below are fairly close to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

This Cactus League ballpark opens this year as the new Scottsdale spring training home to both the Major League Baseball Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.

All of these Scottsdale lodgings are conveniently located and easy to reach from the freeway, as they are either on Scottsdale Road – the major north-south route through town – or just off of it.

There is plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby too, and they’re also within a quick drive to Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall and the Scottsdale Waterfront, making them a good option for most Arizona vacationers.

SmokeTree Resort Scottsdale lodging

SmokeTree Resort & Bungalows

If you are looking for a little something different from the typical Scottsdale accommodation, then the SmokeTree may be for you.

It's easy to miss this old-fashioned Scottsdale lodging, which is a little different from all the rest.

Traveling east on Lincoln Drive, you might notice a closed restaurant, but not the modest Scottsdale accommodation hidden away behind it.

The SmokeTree was once a 26-unit, single story apartment complex and is set on five lushly landscaped acres filled with lawns, palm trees, cacti and colorful flowers.

Owned by the Williams family since 1966, the SmokeTree Resort has an authentic retro look and a very relaxed atmosphere that evokes a 1960s nostalgia.

Some of the buildings are triplexes and fourplexes. There are also studio style and one bedroom bungalows.

The king suite by the pool has large living and dining areas and a full kitchen while the Bentley Suite has two bedrooms and a pool table.

Rooms are non-smoking with French doors, flat screen TVs, refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker and shower tubs in some bathrooms. All rooms have a sofabed and patio except for the studio style rooms.

We stayed in a building with just three units. Cool mornings invited desert cottontail rabbits onto the lawns just beyond our patio.

Our one bedroom king bungalow had plenty of room with a separate living area and kitchenette. The spacious bedroom included a walk-in closet.

Except for a few children in the pool, it was very quiet during our stay. An AJ's grocery store and restaurants on Scottsdale Road are within walking distance.

The SmokeTree is a good option for those looking for a spacious room, convenient location and an atmosphere completely without pretension.

Amenities: all rooms non-smoking, free wireless internet access (although some rooms have better reception than others), small outdoor pool, fitness room, meeting room, free bicycle rentals, concierge service, in-room massage available.

Rates: $101 - $400

Pet Friendly?: No. However, the Applewood Pet Resort is one block away on the same side of Lincoln Dr.

Shuttle?: No

Address: 7101 E. Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale AZ 85253

Directions: From the Loop 101 Freeway, take exit 44 to E. Indian Bend Road. Drive west on E. Indian Bend about 2.5 miles to N. Scottsdale Rd. Turn left (south) at N. Scottsdale. Drive south about 0.5 miles. Turn left (east) on E. Lincoln Drive and go one and a half blocks. This Scottsdale lodging is on the left (south) side of E. Lincoln. Look for a small, brown SmokeTree sign at the entrance. A small office is to the left of the parking lot at one end of the closed restaurant building.
