The Breakfast Club This is one of the downtown Scottsdale restaurants where you'll get good food in large portions. Cowboy Ciao When we're in the mood for a unique dining experience, we head to one of our favorite restaurants in Scottsdale AZ - Cowboy Ciao. The décor is unique with a vaguely Old West saloon feeling. A large wine list and full bar in the center of the dining room add to the adult atmosphere. However, it is the creative menu - an artistic mix of Mexican, Southwestern and Mediterranean cuisines - that makes this one of the most interesting downtown Scottsdale restaurants. Unique dinner menu items include Exotic Mushroom Pan Fry, Chicken-Fried Trout and Pastrami-Rubbed Filet Mignon. The Cowboy Ciao Sunday lunch has an additional brunch menu. Note that menus may vary according to the seasons and the chef’s whims. Read our full Cowboy Ciao Scottsdale review. Address: 7133 E. Don & Charlie's There are few downtown restaurants in Scottsdale AZ that celebrate baseball like Don & Charlie's. During spring training, baseball players, coaches and fans all gather here to talk baseball and enjoy the meat and potatoes fare. Inside there's enough baseball memorabilia to fill a museum. The walls are covered with signed baseballs, baseball bats, jerseys, photographs and more. Basketball, football, hockey and boxing items are also on display. Don Carson is from Chicago, so it's no accident that one of the restaurant's best and most popular items is the Chicago style ribs. The former lounge is now the Burger Bar where patrons may choose from 10 different burgers. You can also get salads, sandwiches, chicken, and their famous French fries and onion rings along with cocktails, margaritas, and wine. Their Cactus League beer menu features beers from every city with a MLB team that participates in Arizona spring training. Don & Charlie's is open for dinner only and is located about a mile north of Scottsdale Stadium. Reservations are recommended. Address: 7501 E. The Herb Box The Herb Box started as a high end catering company and evolved into several restaurants, one of which is in the Southbridge Scottsdale District next to the Marshall Way Bridge. The focus is on healthy meals made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Favorites include red velvet pancakes and butternut squash corn enchiladas. The menu also includes vegetarian options and lists gluten free items. Mirrors on the walls, dark wood tables on light wood floors and colors of orange, blue and white all combine for a unique interior. A large wraparound patio invites diners to enjoy the weather. The Herb Box Market, which faces Stetson Drive, sits below the main restaurant. Although primarily a to-go outlet for the restaurant, they also sell prepared items such as oils, jams, and snacks. The Mission Few downtown restaurants in Scottsdale AZ are surrounded by historical buildings the way The Mission is. The restaurant sits between Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission Church, built in 1933, and Cavalliere's Blacksmith Shop, built in 1920, on N. Brown Avenue. However, it's the new and modern that sets The Mission apart from other Old Town Scottsdale restaurants. Step inside the rich interior and you'll see chandeliers on the ceiling and wood floors. A Himalayan salt block dominates one wall while large, framed mirrors adorn other walls. Duck carnitas empanadas, short rib asado negro, and swordfish Veracruz are just some of the creative dishes on the modern Latin menu. Items such as scallops, black cod and Chilean salmon, cooked on a plancha style grill over pecan and mesquite wood, have a unique flavor. Although there are a variety of vegetable sides, including taro fries and white bean puree, vegetarians should note that there are no vegetarian entrees on the menu. The Mission Lounge and Tequila Bar features over 54 tequilas, margaritas, and hand-pressed cocktails made with fresh juice. Olive and Ivy If you want to dine along the Scottsdale Waterfront, Olive and Ivy is a good choice. This is one of the Sam Fox Concepts restaurants, which includes the eateries Bloom, North, and Wildflower among others. Olive and Ivy has become quite popular for its good, reasonably-priced gourmet food. It’s also the only one of the restaurants in Scottsdale AZ that has patio dining right along the waters of the Arizona canal. The menu is heavily Mediterranean-influenced and appealing to most palates with dishes like bacon-wrapped medjoul dates, sea bass with puttanesca sauce, and braised short ribs with mascarpone polenta. Although some critics have scoffed at the accessible, mainstream menu, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The service, atmosphere, and meal were great. Word to the wise: dinner reservations are a must at this very large and very busy place. If you can't get a reservation, Olive and Ivy also has a take-out market, with a few eat-in tables, right next door. The menu offers flatbread sandwiches, salads, soups, pastries and even breakfast. Orange Table Hidden away in the outdoor Scottsdale Mall/Civic Center area, this little breakfast spot serves big platters of pancakes, omelets and French toast. The interior has cement floors and art on the gold walls. The eclectic menu includes jalapeno pecan pancakes, green flannel hash, and vegetarian plates. We found their omelets to be large and tasty. They're open for breakfast and lunch, and they serve a variety of beers and cocktails too. The Orange Table is one of the downtown restaurants in Scottsdale AZ with a full bar and a patio.
