Renaissance Glendale Hotel & Spa

Large and Luxurious Glendale Hotel has a Great Location

If you're looking to stay in style at Glendale's new hot spot, the Renaissance Glendale Hotel is it.

Renaissance Glendale Hotel
The eleven story Renaissance is in the heart of Westgate

It's located right next door to Jobing.com Arena, University of Phoenix Stadium, also known as Arizona Cardinals football stadium, and the dining and entertainment complex Westgate City Center.

The Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa has 320 guest rooms including 33 suites.

It has a hip, modern look and a simple set of amenities.

Built in 2007, the hotel's 11 floors tower over Westgate next door.

As a matter of fact, some of the upper floors' rooms have views of the Westgate area.

The hotel is managed by Marriott and John Q. Hammons Hotels.

While we appreciated the Renaissance's polished look, we think its best asset is its convenient location.

Our room was well furnished and comfortable and we enjoyed our spa visit.

However, service was sometimes slow and inattentive.

In spite of this, we think this Glendale hotel is a good choice for those looking for a stylish setting close to all the action at Westgate Center.

For Arizona spring training fans, Glendale Stadium-Camelback Ranch is just a short drive away.

Renaissance Glendale Hotel Atmosphere

Starting from the tall, imposing structure to the sleek, brightly colored interior, the Renaissance Glendale Hotel has the look and feel of a Las Vegas hotel.

Everything at the hotel is large and bright.

The lobby, hallways and rooms are all spacious.

On the inside, orange, red and gold colors with marble and stone accents define the Renaissance as the most upscale hotel in Glendale.

One amenity we really liked was the Renaissance's outdoor courtyard with a soothing waterfall and fire pit.

It was a nice spot to sit outside on a warm summer evening.

This relaxing area is actually in the center of the hotel and can be accessed by a number of glass doors around its perimeter.

Our Room at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel

Our room at the Renaissance Glendale was spacious and comfortable.

In addition to a king size bed, there was a day bed, an IPod alarm clock and a work station-like desk.

The desk had a panel of outlets on top that the hotel calls a "Jack Pack".

This allows guests to recharge and connect all their electronic devices.

The panel is also connected to the high definition, flat screen TV. Unfortunately, the TV had rather poor picture quality.

The room's carpet, drapes and furniture were bright orange, red and gold like the rest of the hotel, a color palette Jeff particularly didn’t care for.

The bathroom was also spacious although we would have liked a little more counter space.

Note that not all of the rooms have balconies.

Resort Amenities at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel

Although it's not a full resort, the Renaissance Glendale Hotel & Spa has a nice set of amenities.

Plus, they are all easily accessed off the lobby.

The hotel has three pools.

The main outdoor pool is sheltered by a large wall on west side the hotel and has a spacious lunging deck.

The other two pools are part of the spa and fitness center.

One is a small outdoor plunge pool directly outside the spa; the other is an indoor lap pool next to the fitness center.

The fitness center has cardiovascular and strength training equipment.

For business travelers, the Renaissance Glendale Hotel features over 95,000 square-feet of space in the Conference and Media Centers. There is also an onsite 24 hour business center.

Just a few yards away is the massive Westgate City Center, a three story dining and entertainment complex.

There are a variety of restaurants, shops and a 20-screen movie theater.

The hotel is also next to Jobing.com Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team. The arena is also host to national touring acts such as Cold Play and Fleetwood Mac.

If you're a football fan, the Renaissance Glendale is a convenient lodging as its just one block from University of Phoenix Football Stadium where the Arizona Cardinals football team plays.

Even if it is not football season, consider signing up for one of the fascinating Cardinals stadium tours.

These 60 minute guided tours give a unique, up-close look into the massive stadium's construction and operation and even includes a look inside the visiting team's locker rooms.

Renaissance Glendale Hotel Spa

Prior to our arrival at the hotel, we made appointments to have massages at the hotel’s Spa Botanica.

The elegant spa lobby features a small retail boutique.

The spa is two stories and a circular staircase winds downstairs to the indoor and outdoor treatment rooms and the men's and women's lounges.

The spa menu includes a good selection of massages, facials, body treatments, couples treatments, waxing, manicures and pedicures.

They also offer health and fitness services.

Spa Botanica's private outdoor retreat includes a small pool, whirlpool and 7 cabanas.

Restaurants

The Renaissance Glendale Hotel’s main restaurant is Soleil, which serves contemporary American cuisine.

With all the restaurants at Westgate Center next door, we ended up having breakfast only at Soleil.

We were surprised at the slow service during our breakfast because there were only about 8 customers in the restaurant.

In spite of this, the food was good but expensive.

Off from the lobby is Caffina's Marketplace Café. They serve Starbucks coffee and the place has the look and feel of an upscale Starbucks.

Poolside cuisine at Refresco's and Ray's Lounge bar rounds out the hotel's food and beverage options.
