Plus, it has something many hotels don't have – a unique, historic southwestern character. Pink adobe buildings are scattered over 14 acres of colorful gardens, verdant lawns and shady courtyards. We loved the casita-style rooms, with their retro 1940s style furnishings, tile and hardwood floors and private patios that evoke a by-gone era. The Inn's attentive service is a hallmark of the Greenway family, who have continually owned and operated the Arizona Inn since its opening in 1930. Hotel Congress, Tucson AZ Have you ever wanted to live like you were in a Dashiell Hammet mystery novel? This historic hotel in Arizona might just fulfill that fantasy. Built in 1919 and set in the heart of Tucson's revitalized downtown, the Hotel Congress is a hip, happening and inexpensive lodging. It's perhaps most famously known as the place where members of the notorious John Dillenger gang hid out shortly before their capture by Tucson police in 1934. The 40 old fashioned rooms are all on the second floor and offer a vintage experience with antique iron beds, old time radios and reading lamps but no TV. Retro style phones actually connect to a switchboard at the front desk! Fans of the paranormal may encounter one of three ghosts said to inhabit the hotel. Light sleepers should note that below is the Club Congress, perhaps Tucson’s hippest and most popular nightclub, showcasing local musical talent. Don't miss the wonderful Cup Café, one of our favorite Tucson eateries, which serves delicious Southwestern and American bistro fare, too-die-for desserts and has a floor studded with pennies. Amenities: restaurant, bar, nightclub, complimentary WiFi, pet friendly. Rates: $69 - $99 per night. Address: 311 E. Congress Avenue, Tucson AZ 85701 Location: Downtown Tucson near the railroad tracks

Our stay was quiet, even though the hotel is located on busy Highway 89. There is the Reds restaurant on site but save your money and try one of the many Sedona restaurants nearby.
