Native Seeds/SEARCH safeguards and promotes the use of 2,000 varieties of arid land-adapted agricultural crops, many of which have been cultivated by Native American tribes for centuries. Visit their great store on 4th Avenue in Tucson to purchase seeds, Southwestern foods, books and crafts made by indigenous cultures.
Sky Island Alliance
This great non-profit is dedicated to preserving the biological diversity of the Sky Islands. The Sky Islands are the beautiful, incredibly biologically rich mountain "islands" of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Sky Island Alliance conducts scientific research, education programs and fosters cooperation among stakeholders to protect these fragile lands.
Tucson Audubon Society
The Tucson Audubon Society is a wonderful and effective non-profit doing great work to educate everyone about the incredible birds of southeastern Arizona. They have been instrumental in helping conserve the Sonoran Desert and identifying Important Bird Areas. Tucson Audubon also offers excellent birding trips and educational programs. When you're in Tucson, make time to visit their two wonderful gift shops where you can get everything from binoculars to bird feeders.
