Downtown Glendale Arizona Attractions Take a trip to historic downtown Glendale and you’ll feel like you've stepped back in time to an old fashioned, small town. The downtown Glendale area has over 20 antique shops plus many restaurants and specialty shops in a 10-square block area. Downtown Glendale has two main historic districts - Old Towne and Caitlin Court. Old Towne is a collection of old brick buildings filled with shops and restaurants and sidewalks lined with brick and gaslight lamps. For one of the tastiest Glendale Arizona Attractions, head over to the popular Cerreta Candy Company at the east end of Old Towne. You can sample their diverse selection of chocolates and candies or take a tour of the factory. A good starting point for exploring downtown Glendale is Murphy Park. Located in the center of downtown Glendale, the park is named after the city's founder W.J. Murphy and its formal grass lawns are home to many city events. North of Murphy Park is a residential neighborhood known as the Caitlin Court Historic District. This area features early 1900s bungalows that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Wide streets, large trees and low white picket fences give Caitlin Court a small Midwestern town feel. Many of the houses have been converted into boutiques that sell antiques, jewelry, teddy bears, Christmas decorations and art glass. During our walk around Caitlin Court we could see that these businesses were spread out over several blocks and mixed in with neighborhood homes. So be sure to wear your walking shoes when you explore this charming district. Location: The Historic Downtown Glendale Districts extend (west to east) from 53rd Avenue to 59th Avenue and (north to south) from Lamar Road to Myrtle Avenue. For more info, stop in at the Glendale Visitor Center is at 5800 W. Glen Drive, #140 in the Bank of America building, across the street from Murphy Park (623-930-4500). Free parking is available just north of the Visitor Center in the Palmaire Parking Structure at 58th Avenue and Glenn Drive.
