Flights to Arizona

Flights to Arizona are fairly easy to get.

It’s just that you may not be able to get a direct flight, depending on where you are coming from.

All of the major American airline carriers fly to Arizona.

There are over 20 airlines to Arizona offering non-stop service to over 85 U.S. cities.

Most airline flights to Arizona land at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

This is the largest airport in the state.

It is located in the city of Phoenix, which is the state capital and Arizona’s largest city.

Sky Harbor is a major airline hub that handles passengers continuing on to other destinations as well as those traveling directly to and from Phoenix, so it’s a very busy airport.

Many Arizona travelers opt to fly to Arizona via Phoenix as the city is centrally located in the state.

So, it makes a good starting point for traveling to other Arizona destinations.

If you’re traveling to southern Arizona to visit popular Old West towns such as Tucson, Tombstone or Bisbee, you can take a flight to Tucson.

Tucson, however, has fewer direct flights than Sky Harbor International Airport.

So, you may have to land first in Phoenix and/or possibly transfer to a Tucson flight.

Tucson International Airport is Arizona’s other major airport.

It lies on the southeastern edge of the city of Tucson, which is Arizona’s second largest metropolitan area.

Tucson International is considered a destination airport, which primarily serves air travelers going to and from Tucson.

Currently thirteen airlines offer daily nonstop flights to and from Tucson to over 28 destinations with connections worldwide.

If you choose to land and disembark in Phoenix, you can rent a car and drive to Tucson and other parts of Southern Arizona.

Tucson is about a 2˝ hour drive south of Phoenix and only about 60 miles from the Mexican border.

There are no direct, major airline flights to Arizona’s smaller cities.

You would need to take smaller express flights or charter a flight to towns such as Yuma, Sedona and Prescott or to the Grand Canyon.

Do you have your own plane?

If so, there are several smaller Arizona airports where you can land your own private plane.

A few are scattered around the greater Phoenix metropolitan area in Scottsdale, Deer Valley, Goodyear and Mesa.

Other Arizona cities with small airports include Tucson, Sedona, Yuma, Flagstaff and Prescott.

International Flights to Arizona USA

If you are traveling to Arizona from outside the United States, you can fly from almost any international destination in the world through Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Currently, if you are flying to Phoenix from somewhere other than the North American continent, there is only one direct, non-stop international flight to Arizona and that is via British Airways from London, England to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

For other flights to Arizona from overseas, you will need to catch a connecting flight to Phoenix once you are in the U.S.

This is generally done at international airports in major U.S. cities such as New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles (both in California).

Several airlines do fly non-stop to and from Phoenix to destinations in Canada and Mexico.

Here is a current list of international non-stop flights to Phoenix AZ:

  • British Airways: to AZ / from London
  • America West Airlines: to AZ / from Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica
  • AeroMexico: to AZ / from Mexico
  • Air Canada: to AZ / from Canada
  • West Jet: to AZ / from Calgary, Canada.

If you’re flying to Tucson, there is only one non-stop international flight and that is on Aerolitoral from Hermosillo, Mexico.

Therefore, most international travelers to Tucson will need to fly to Phoenix first.

Airfare to Arizona

The cost of airline tickets to Arizona varies greatly based on the time of year of travel.

Flights to Arizona are most expensive around busy US holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter/Spring Break, and during the height of the Arizona spring travel season.

Springtime is when Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson see the majority of Arizona vacationers who come for the warm desert climate or to see major Arizona events such as Arizona spring baseball training.
