When we're visiting "Flag," we always grateful that there's a great selection of Flagstaff Arizona restaurants. After a day spent hiking Flagstaff's scenic mountain trails or strolling through its historic downtown, we're hungry for a good meal. Lucky for us, we never have any trouble picking a Flagstaff restaurant. As you might expect in a college town, you'll find plenty of places to get a brew, grab a cup of Joe or fill up on some great Flagstaff pizza. But there's also find a great variety of restaurants in Flagstaff Arizona serving quick bites to eat and comfort food as well as ethnic eateries and gourmet fine dining. Here are some of our favorite Flagstaff Arizona restaurants, listed alphabetically:
Brix Restaurant and Wine Bar Set in a historic brick carriage house just 3 blocks north of downtown, Brix has garnered acclaim as one of the best Flagstaff Arizona restaurants. The cuisine is bursting with fresh produce from local farmers and ranchers in the Northern Arizona/Four Corners region. Brix's seasonally-inspired menus are perfectly paired with a carefully selected but extensive wine list. Dishes may include the deconstructed salad niçoise with tuna carpaccio, grilled Cedar River Farms New York strip steak, or pan-seared seasonal fish with sweet corn soufflé and heirloom tomato relish. The food at this restaurant in Flagstaff Arizona continues the fine tradition of California style cuisine begun by culinary luminaries like Alice Waters and Deborah Madison. Address: 413 N. San Francisco Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Beaver Street Brewery Everyone's friendly here and the atmosphere is like an after-ski party in a mountain lodge, complete with the antique wood-burning stoves. The varied menu includes quesadillas, wood-fired pizzas, burgers, steamed mussels in Thai curry sauce, green goddess salmon salad and portobello mushroom sandwich. This is also one of the best Flagstaff Arizona restaurants for sampling a variety of microbrews like the full-bodied Rail Head Red to the fruity Bramble Berry Brew. Not sure what to try? You can sample any beer for just 50 cents. We got quite a kick out of reading the cocktails menu with its suggestive adults-only drink names. Beaver Street Brewery's separate billiard room, Brews & Cues, is next door and has the same menu plus pool tables and games. Address: 11 S. Beaver Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Campus Coffee Bean and Grill It's an ultra-casual hangout with a large selection of coffees and an even larger selection of teas including more flavors of the Yogi Tea brand than we’ve ever seen in one place. We really liked their big breakfasts, which range from eggs and bacon and pancakes to huge omelets and breakfast burritos. The lunch menu has a variety of deli style and grilled sandwiches, gyros, hummus plates, salads, soups and chili - all reasonably priced. Address: 1800 S. Milton Road, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Charly’s Pub and Grill Diners come for the people-watching and for the mixed American/Southwestern menu of local favorites. Burgers, crab cakes, and prime rib share the menu with regional specialties like quesadillas, enchiladas, posole and Navajo tacos. Breakfast dishes include cinnamon and butter pancakes, chorizo and eggs and omelets. This is one of the most popular Flagstaff Arizona restaurants, so you might have to wait for a table. Address: 23 N. Leroux Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Criollo Latin Kitchen Like Brix, its sister restaurant, Criollo serves locally sourced, sustainable, and artfully presented food in a modern setting. The small interior has a warm ambiance with wood tables and floors and paintings by local artists on the walls. A full bar dominates one side of the restaurant. The menu is a blend of Mexican and Latin influences with entrees such as mojo marinated pork tenderloin, carne asada tacos, macadamia crusted halibut, and relleno vegetales. Brunch items include blue corn pancakes, Mexican scrambled eggs and chorizo, and Haitian pulled pork, eggs, beans, and rice. A small selection of tapas and Latin desserts round out the offerings. The service was friendly but it did take a long time for us to get our meal after ordering. Paula enjoyed the wild mushroom burrito with corn, chèvre, black beans and greens. Jeff had the build-your-own-omelette. The omelette was good, but the home fries were bit too spicy hot for us to eat. Criollo Latin Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. Brunch and dinner is served Saturday and Sunday. Address: 16 N. San Francisco Street, Flagstaff, AZ 86001
La Bellavia This is one of the popular Flagstaff Arizona restaurants for locals and the photos of regulars on the wall proves it. The breakfasts - trout and eggs, seven grain French toast, breakfast burrito - are delicious and filling. We liked that La Bellavia offers a selection of diverse sides with their breakfasts such as buttermilk pancakes, Swedish oat pancake, flour tortillas or toast with your dish. Kids will love the koala chip pancakes, shaped like a koala and filled with chocolate. Lunch dishes include specialty sandwiches like corned beef reuben, veggie deluxe, and roast beef hoagie as well as salads, soups and burgers. Address: 18 S. Beaver Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Late for the Train Late for the Train has a variety of hot coffees, cold coffee drinks and teas. Or stop in for breakfast pastries or breakfast cookies for a quick bite to eat. The Fort Valley Road location on Highway 180, at the edge of town near the Museum of Northern Arizona, also offers ready-made sandwiches and salads. Formerly a gas station, this Flagstaff restaurant is great place to "fill up" on your way out of town for outdoor adventure. Address and Phone:
Lumberyard Brewing Company The owners of Flagstaff's popular Beaver Street Brewery opened Lumberyard in an effort to expand. As its name suggests, the building was once a lumberyard and dates back to 1890. Although the two Flagstaff Arizona restaurants have similar types of menus, the offerings at Lumberyard are different. There’s the standard brew pub fare such as wings, nachos, and chili. Full meal items include the California tri-tip sandwich, the classic Sonoran dog, a Greek salad, and a hummus Rueben sandwich. You can also build your own deli sandwich. Burgers, burritos, mac and cheese, and desserts round out the menu. Of course, there are plenty of Lumberyard handcrafted beers and ales on tap to choose from. California wines dominate the wine list. The outdoor patio area faces the train tracks and it has a smoking and non-smoking area. Lumberyard Brewing Company is open for lunch and dinner every day. Address: 5 S. San Francisco Street, 86001
Macy's European Coffeehouse Macy's was the first commercial coffee roaster in Arizona and they have been making a great cup of Joe since 1980. Their coffee is made with premium Arabica hard bean varieties from organic and estate coffee growers, which they grind to European standards. This is one of our favorite Flagstaff Arizona restaurants for a quick bite. The atmosphere is bohemian, the coffee list extensive and the menu all-vegetarian. Their pastries include wheat-free, dairy-free and vegan choices. You'll also find a good selection of teas including chai and a yummy hot cocoa topped with a great dollop of whipped cream. Address: 14 South Beaver Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Monsoon on the Rim They offer an extensive selection of sushi plus lettuce wraps, egg rolls, teriyaki, Chinese stir fried specialties and Thai curries. We really liked the unusual Arizona roll, a take on the standard California roll, but with smoked salmon substituted for the traditional crab and a jalapeno-spiked prickly pear cream cheese. The bar has an affordable mix of cocktails, beer and wine. This is one of the few Flagstaff Arizona restaurants located right on Heritage Square, in the center of downtown. Address: 6 E. Aspen Avenue, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Mountain Oasis The center of the restaurant is a recreated oasis with burbling fountains and tall ficus trees decorated with twinkling lights. Set in a historic building, the bare brick walls are adorned with local artwork. The menu offers a broad, eclectic selection of dishes from around the world including grilled ahi tuna salad, Japanese nori rolls, Middle Eastern plate, sautéed vegetables with Thai peanut sauce and chicken artichoke pasta. There's also a separate children’s menu. Don't miss one of their yummy smoothies made with fresh fruit. A wonderful staff, wholesome food at reasonable prices and welcoming atmosphere make Mountain Oasis one of the best family friendly Flagstaff Arizona restaurants. Address: 11 E. Aspen Avenue, Flagstaff AZ 86001
New Frontiers Flagstaff The New Frontiers deli makes a great spot to pick up healthy and organic picnic fixings or to grab a quick bite to eat. In the deli, you'll find pre-made and made-to-order sandwiches, delicious wood-fired pizzas, super fresh sushi, prepared foods, soups, a bakery, a salad bar and more. Not everything in the store is organic, but the focus is definitely on healthy food. Note that you can expect to pay more than you would at a standard grocery store but the good food is worth it. New Frontiers is located at the corner of E. Butler Avenue and E. Sawmill Road in the Aspen Place at the Sawmill Shopping Center in southeastern Flagstaff. Open daily. Address: 320 S. Cambridge Lane, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Pasto Cucina Italiana The elegant interior, with its exposed brick walls, pressed copper ceiling, hardwood floors and tables topped with black tablecloths and flickering candles, feels both chic and intimate. Multiple courses are the theme here and the staff recommends that diners share the plates of modest portions. The contemporary Italian menu draws inspiration from Italy's diverse regions. Dishes include tagliatelle Bolognese, salmon picatta, charbroiled pork loin and mushroom canneloni. To get a full meal, we ordered antipasti and salad before we had our entrée. Wine lovers will appreciate Pasto's extensive wine list, many of which are selected from independent vintners with limited production runs. This is one of the Flagstaff Arizona restaurants that perfect for foodies and wine lovers. However, only sophisticated kids will probably appreciate the menu and atmosphere. Address: 19 E. Aspen Street, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Pita Jungle Not only are vegan items available, other items can be made vegan at your request. Pita Jungle's extensive menu includes starters, salads, pitas, veggie burgers, wood-fired pizzas, combination plates, sides, and desserts. Dishes such as roasted bell pepper hummus, grilled vegetable salad, chipotle chicken lavosh pizza, and wood-fired salmon with garlic smashed potatoes and wilted spinach are full of fresh ingredients and healthy too. Our Mediterranean roasted chicken pita and black bean veggie burger were delicious and filling. The delicious blueberry smoothie we had was as good as any dessert. A high ceiling, white walls, local artists' paintings, and a large, framed mirror give the interior a bright and cheery feel. There's also a small bar serving beer and wine and patio dining. Pita Jungle is located southeast of downtown Flagstaff, off of E. Butler Avenue by the New Frontiers grocery store. Pita Jungle is open for lunch and dinner every day. Address: 320 S. Regent Street, Flagstaff, AZ 86011
Pita Pit Step up to the deli counter and choose from over 20 types of pita sandwiches, from chicken Caesar and gyro to falafel and babaganoush. You'll get your choice of fixings including the standard lettuce and tomato to the more exotic feta cheese and tzatziki sauce. Chips and drinks round out their simple menu. They also serve breakfast pitas all day long. This is one of the fast food style, franchise Flagstaff Arizona restaurants. It can get very busy, so you may have to wait but the line moves quickly.
