The Coffee Pot Restaurant has. This Sedona restaurant has been serving hearty breakfasts with large portions and reasonable prices since the 1950s. Their huge, inexpensive platters of food and "bottomless" coffee pot on every table gave us the fuel we needed for a day of exploring Sedona’s red rock country. The Coffee Pot is also a great place to pick up hiking and sightseeing tips from the friendly and knowledgeable staff and locals. You might think the restaurant’s called the "Coffee Pot" because they leave a pot of coffee on every table.
But actually it’s named for nearby Coffee Pot Rock – an enormous red rock butte that looms behind the restaurant in the distance. Coffee Pot Restaurant Sedona CuisineThe Coffee Pot Restaurant proclaims itself as "Home of the Famous 101 Omelets."
And, they aren’t kidding. The first page of the menu is nothing but omelets. You can order just about every possible, edible combination you can think. There are simple omelet types like ham and cheese and spinach and mushroom to more exotic fare like Polish sausage and jelly and peanut butter and banana (prices range from $3.95 - $9.05). All omelets are accompanied by potatoes, grits or cottage cheese and your choice of either toast or homemade biscuits. They also serve all the breakfast standards like eggs, ham and toast ($5.25), pancakes, Belgian waffles (starting at $3.25) and eggs benedict ($5.75 – 7.25). Their Southwestern breakfast specialties include breakfast burritos ($3.75) and huevos rancheros ($5.95). Breakfast is served all day, so if you’re on vacation, you don’t have to worry about getting up early. The Coffee Pot Restaurant also serves lunch. Dishes range from sandwiches and burgers to salads and lunch specials including:
They also offer an extensive list of Mexican foods such as fajitas ($9.00), chicken enchiladas ($7.60) and chile colorado ($8.75). Coffee Pot Restaurant AtmosphereThe Coffee Pot Restaurant has the feel of an old fashioned diner.
The atmosphere is very casual and family friendly. Simple wood tables and chairs and vinyl booths fill the dining room. The room has a Southwestern theme with a saltillo tile floor. Large, painted Kachina portraits – the sacred dolls of the Hopi tribe – and sky scenes decorate the walls. For those who don’t want to sit inside, there is a garden patio behind the building. This small area features a pond and waterfall. The tables are shaded by large umbrellas. Neither the indoor nor outdoor seating has any views, however. The Coffee Pot has a small gift shop at the front of the restaurant. They’ve stocked it with a wide variety of Sedona- and Southwestern-related items including silver and turquoise jewelry, pottery, hats, wind chimes, nature and hiking guide books, books on Sedona and Dia de los Muertos items. Our Meal at Coffee Pot RestaurantThe Coffee Pot Restaurant is located along Highway 89A, a few miles west of Sedona’s center, in an area of strip malls and hotels.
Their parking lot is small. On the busy Sunday morning that we ate there, we had to park across the street in a mall parking lot. Take our advice - if you have to do this, do not J-walk. Use the crosswalk at the stoplight on the corner. Highway 89A traffic is heavy and crossing it can be hazardous to your health! As the restaurant was packed, we waited about 15 minutes for a table. Tip: When you arrive, you need to write your name and number in party on the yellow legal pad next to the cash register. There’s no sign telling you to do this. As soon as we were seated, our waitress stopped by to greet us and placed a pitcher of water and large pot of coffee on the table. Jeff loved having his own coffee pot. In a restaurant as busy as this, you won’t have to worry about flagging down the wait staff for refills. Jeff had the #42 omelette –zucchini, mushroom, spinach, bacon and cheese ($6.80). Accompanied by hash browns and toast, it was golden, fluffy and stuffed full of the delicious filling.
I had the huevos rancheros ($5.95) – one of my favorite breakfast dishes. The perfectly scrambled eggs sat atop a layer of creamy refried beans on perfectly cooked corn tortillas and topped with a mild green chile sauce. This dish came with Mexican style red rice, a chopped lettuce and tomato salad and a bowl of spicy, homemade tomato salsa. There was so much food, I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day. Our meal was very tasty. The Coffee Pot Restaurant’s staff is friendly and the service is very quick and efficient. We think the Coffee Pot is a great Sedona breakfast spot.
