…have their highest visitation of the year.
The Arizona desert’s temperate winter climate and generally sunny days draws visitors and part-time residents - commonly referred to as "snowbirds" - from the cold and snowy regions of the United States.
During this peak Arizona travel season, resort and hotel rates will be high. Expect to pay at least $300 per night.
Reserving a room well in advance is a must in the winter, especially during Major League Baseball’s annual Spring Training in March.
It’s difficult to get an Arizona travel deal during the high season.
Consider signing up for email alerts from the resort you’d like to visit.
You also may be able to get a travel deal during the early part of the week – Sunday through Thursday.
The Low Season
Summer - June, July and August - is when you can find some really great Arizona travel deals at many resorts and hotels in the desert.

Rooms that cost $300 or more per day in winter generally drop to the low $100s and even into the high $90s by around mid-June.
For instance, we paid $129 per night (excluding taxes and service charge) at the exclusive The Boulders Resort in August.
This same room would cost over $400 per night in February or March.
If you don't mind the heat, summer is a great time for Arizona travel deals at luxurious desert resorts.
The Shoulder Season
April to May and September through December are known as the "shoulder seasons" for Arizona travel in the desert.
You'll see some Arizona travel deals during this time as room rates generally drop by about $100 in spring from their winter season highs and go up by about $100 in autumn from their summer season lows.
How's the weather during the shoulder season? In general, the temperatures will be warmer in the spring and a little cooler in the fall.
Sedona and other Arizona Mid-Climate Areas
The High Season
Sedona and other mid-climate areas like Prescott, Bisbee and Tombstone generally have their high season in March through May and October through November.

Sedona generally has the highest hotel and resort room rates for the mid-climate areas with costs around the high $100s to low to mid-$200s.
Rooms at some Sedona resorts and bed and breakfasts may run as high as the mid-$300s to mid-$400s.
Summer is generally considered more of a shoulder season for Sedona.
However, in our experience, we've found that summers in Sedona can be very busy as tourists come from all over the world to see the area’s renowned red rock canyons.
Plus Phoenix locals flock to the higher elevations to escape the desert heat.
Average Sedona summer room rates run around the mid- to high $100s.
Room rates may even be as high as $300 or $400 at some Sedona resorts and bed and breakfasts.
Summers can also be busy in southeastern Arizona towns like Sierra Vista and Patagonia which draw birders and nature enthusiasts from around the world to the region’s famous Sky Islands.
The Sky Islands are biologically rich mountain ranges surrounded by desert.
These mountains are the permanent home to many unique plants and animals and the seasonal breeding areas of neotropical migrant birds such as the elegant trogon, rose-throated becard and blue grosbeak.
Many of southeastern Arizona's small towns have limited lodgings - mostly motels and cozy bed and breakfasts.
So make sure to book a room well in advance if you're traveling to these towns because availability can be tight.
The Low Season
December, January and February are the time to find some great Arizona travel deals in Sedona and other mid-climate towns.
Temperatures range from a high of around 55°F to a low of 30°F.
Yes, the temperature is cool to downright cold but hotel room rates have dropped, hiking trails are practically deserted and most lodgings have heated pools.
Sedona and Prescott winter room rates are around the low $100s. Some motels and smaller hotels even drop down into the low $90s.
June and September are also low season for Sedona, so you might get some good travel deals during these times too.
Arizona Mountain Areas
The High Season
Arizona’s beautiful mountain towns, such as Flagstaff and Payson and Show Low in the White Mountains, are the exact opposite of the deserts when it comes to seasonal Arizona travel costs.

Their high season is the summer - June through August - when many Arizona residents flock to the mountains to escape the desert’s heat.
Mountain town room rates range from the low $100s on weekdays to the mid-$100s and low $200s on weekends.
The Low Season
You can find some great Arizona travel deals in winter from January through March, even though this is skiing season.
Flagstaff winter room rates are mostly in the high $80s to low $90s.
The shoulder season occurs from April to May and September to December. Prices are only slightly higher than the low season rates.
