Looking for something different to do? Head out to one of the many activities and events in Arizona.

No matter what time of the year, there's always something fun and interesting happening somewhere in the state.

You'll find the Southwestern-style Arizona events you'd expect such as American Indian pow wows, rodeos and Wild West heritage festivals.

Events in Arizona also include diverse options such as birding festivals, art walks, antique fairs, farm harvest celebrations, food and wine events and even a cardboard boat race.

Annual Activities and Events in Arizona

Wings Over Willcox

Willcox | 2nd week of January
Every year, migrating sandhill cranes leave their summer nesting grounds in the north and fly south to the farm fields around Willcox, Arizona. One of the best ways to see and learn about these stately birds is to attend the annual Wings Over Willcox Birding and Nature Festival. In addition to seeing thousands of cranes, festival-goers may also see 500-plus bird species, participate in birding tours, photo and birding workshops, natural history seminars, walking tours of historic Willcox, and even ghost town visits.

Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and Showcase

Tucson | first two weeks of February
This is one of the premier activities and events in Arizona which draws visitors from all over the world. Running for two weeks, the Gem and Mineral Showcase brings together dealers and collectors to buy and sell just about every type of gem, mineral, fossil, meteor and jewelry imaginable. The huge Tucson Gem and Mineral Show at the Tucson Convention Center is the big event, where you'll see some of the most incredible specimens on display and for sale.

Accenture Match Play Championship Golf

Tucson | mid-February
Some of the most popular events in Arizona involve golf and this tournament is one of the best. Accenture Match Play brings the world's top 64 golf professionals to tee off against each other for the $8 million purse. Now held at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain Golf Club north of Tucson, this stunning Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is worth the visit alone.

Arizona Spring Training Baseball

Greater Phoenix Area | late February – end of March
Perhaps the biggest of all the activities and events in Arizona is the annual Major League Baseball’s Cactus League Spring Training. Every year, professional players get a chance to warm up for the regular season, rookies get to tryout for the big leagues and millions of eager and hopeful fans get excited for their team's chances this year.

McDowell Mountain Music Festival

Scottsdale | last weekend in April
One of the biggest musical events in Arizona has moved in 2010 to the Scottsdale 101 Shopping Center. This outdoor festival lasts 3 days and has a different set of bands every year that include music styles as diverse as rock, blues and reggae. Besides music, there's a marketplace, drum circle and kid's zone. All to raise funds for local children's charities.

Flagstaff Art Walk

Flagstaff | First Friday night of every month
Experience the vibrant Flagstaff art scene during the Flagstaff Art Walk held in downtown Flagstaff. One of several monthly art activities and events in Arizona, this is the perfect opportunity to meet artists, see live performances and shop an eclectic mix of over 15 art galleries. Afterwards, stop in for a bite at one of the many great eateries tucked into downtown Flagstaff’s historic buildings.

2011 MLB All Star Game

Phoenix | July 8 - 12
The 2011 All Star Baseball Game was held on Tuesday, July 12 at Chase Field in Phoenix. This was the first time that there has been an All Star Game in Arizona. In addition to the big game, there were other baseball events including the All Star FanFest and the Home Run Derby.

Star Wars Concert

Tucson | May 26, 2010
A galaxy far, far away comes to Tucson to celebrate John Williams' wonderful and memorable the Star Wars films' scores. A full, live symphony orchestra played highlights from music against a backdrop of select Star Wars movie clips and a light show extravaganza. Note: the Star Wars Concert toured throughout the U.S.

Wrestlemania 2010

Phoenix and Glendale | March 25-28, 2010
One of the biggest Arizona events in 2010, Wrestlemania is World Wrestling Entertainments' "Superbowl" of wrestling. Some of the biggest names in professional wrestling competed at the big Wrestlemania event. Other related events included Wrestlemania Fan Axxess, the Wrestlemania 26 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Monday Night Raw.

NBA All-Star Basketball Game 2009

Phoenix | February 15, 2009
Phoenix hosted the NBA's 2009 Basketball All Star Game, one of the biggest activities and events in Arizona that year. The best professional basketball players, like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, competed in an all-star game. The All Star Weekend included fun activities, many games and a chance to see the players up close.
